NRSWA Street works Operatives Full Course - New Road And Street Works

Course

Overview

This course is designed for supervisors who are required to monitor operatives locating underground cables, setting up traffic management and carrying out excavations & reinstatements in line with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA). New road and street works are fundamental to keeping our roads safe and traffic moving.

Quality work and adherence to national standards in highway maintenance is vital to ensure the infrastructure of our carriageways and to keep the supply chain moving without causing adverse delays and soaring costs. New Roads and Street works can be very hazardous to the untrained operative, pedestrians and live traffic if standards and safe working practices are not carried out. New Roads and Street works are subject to legislation that provides a compulsory framework for highway maintenance activities.

The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) sets out objectives to ensure safety, minimise inconvenience to people and traffic, reduce inconvenience to people with a disability and to protect the structure of the road and the apparatus in it.

The Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) certification delivers the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding of New Roads & Street Works for Supervisors The units covered on the course are LA (01) + S1 (10) – S7 (16).

(Important: the numbers in brackets are the old street works unit numbers)
