NRSWA Street Works Re-Assessment - New Road And Street Works

Course

Overview

The full or single unit reassessments are for anyone that wishes to continue to work or supervise in the highway, and whose current qualification/card are due to or have recently expired. We typically advise those who are entering the 6-month period prior to their NRSWA Card expiring to schedule reassessment at their earliest convenience. This is because putting it off until the last moment runs the risk that you could miss the expiration date and become ineligible to carry out highway works.

New road and street works are fundamental to keeping our roads safe and traffic moving. In highway maintenance quality work and adherence to national standards is vital to ensure the infrastructure of our carriageways and to keep the supply chain moving without causing adverse delays and soaring costs.

New Roads and Street works can be very hazardous to the untrained operative, pedestrians and live traffic if standards and safe working practices are not carried out. New Roads and Street works are subject to legislation that provides a compulsory framework for highway maintenance activities. The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) sets out objectives to ensure safety, minimise inconvenience to people and traffic, reduce inconvenience to people with a disability and to protect the structure of the road and the apparatus in it.

Delivery

The delivery of the reassessment will be classroom-based. You will have to complete a timed online exam for each street works unit you are being reassessed on. The online exam for each unit will contain 20 multiple choice questions and you will need to answer 80% of them (16 out of 20) correctly in order to pass. You will be given 45 minutes to answer the questions and should you fail, you will have to schedule another reassessment. The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations.

Course

Location

This course must be delivered at one of our training centres as they meet with the awarding body requirements.

Course

Certification

On successfully achieving a pass mark the candidate will qualify for a SQA certificate of unit achievement. Depending what unit they achieve we will then apply for their SWQR card, which will enable them to carry out New Roads and Street works activities on the highway in line with legislative requirements.

Course

Duration

There are two options when it comes to renewing this qualification:

Complete a 1-day course which involves just taking the reassessment in the form of the multiple-choice exam.

Complete a 2-day training course reassessment, which includes some classroom refresher training before the candidate takes the multiple-choice exam.

If you are unsure what course is best for the candidate, please contact a member of our team who will be happy to advise you.

Additional

Information

Candidates should bring their current SWQR card/s with units listed to the training. They will also need to provide valid proof of identity on the first day of the course, such as a copy of their passport or driving licence. All Certification fees are included in the course cost.
